The keyboard for the Surface or Surface Pro has Surface functions mapped to the function keys. On the “surface” this is a nice feature, but it can be annoying when you want to use your function keys as normal function keys. By default, you have to hold down the “Fn” function, then while holding it down, press your function key.
Luckily, there is a solution to fix this annoyance. If you hold down “Fn” and hit the “Caps” key, it will act as a function lock (similar to a caps lock) and toggle the default function key action to act as you would expect, just like a function key. You can still use the surface features by pressing the “Fn” key and the icon of the surface feature you want to use simultaneously.
Since this is a toggle, you can go back to default behavior by pressing “Fn” + “Caps” again.
